Thursday

Today was the one before last day of school for Abigail before the graduation ceremony for the eighth grade kids. They are slowly winding down meaning that are doing nothing just socializing.

For quite a while there were no homework. I think when I went to school we studied until the last day. Here they are being prepared for tests and exams. Most of the kids are already accepted to some high school so what's the point studying  any more?

The way I see it the whole educational system sucks. But the kids like it and that is what important.

She also brought home her yearbook where her friends scribed their remarks. It is amazing how stupid, cruel and thoughtless 14 year olds can be. And how when they think something is funny it isn't.

But it is their world and all we can do is grin and bear it.

Something else

Today we made a pit stop our favorite European butcher shop and bought oodles of good  cold cuts. Whenever I go to this or any other European meat store I am constantly amazed how bland the American cold cut market is.

Ham, bologna, salami, pepperoni and a few other similarly boring stuff. Even in St. Maarten in the supermarket there were French and Dutch cold cuts that were far above the American ones. Representative of the fact that American cold cuts were stashed away in a dark corner while the European one in front of everybody else.

As much as I dislike Russians I have to admit their cold cuts are good and tasty.
